About the founder

Colter is a mechanical engineer by training (Gonzaga University, B.S. Mechanical Engineering 2016) who spent roughly a decade as a practicing engineer in regulated, engineer-to-order manufacturing before founding this firm. His career ran from telecom infrastructure hardware to Director of Quality Assurance for an FAA-regulated aviation and unmanned systems avionics manufacturer; he holds a credential as an Applied Internal Quality Auditor under ISO 9001:2015 from the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center. He now holds a senior quality engineering and operations planning role in defense manufacturing. On the technical side he holds a post-graduate certificate in AI Strategy from Cornell University, certificates in Azure machine learning, computer vision and applied AI from Microsoft, machine learning foundations from the University of Washington, and an IBM generative AI certificate series covering foundations, platforms, prompt engineering and AI ethics.

Enterprise systems built in industry

Before founding Mahlum Innovations, Colter personally designed, built, and deployed several enterprise production systems while employed by Nomad Global Communication Solutions, an engineer-to-order manufacturer of communication and command vehicles now part of Kratos Defense and Security Solutions. These systems are built for and owned by that employer. They include an advanced planning and scheduling platform that runs the entire production schedule for the facility, an engineering work management platform used by the full engineering staff, a per-engineer resource planning and utilization forecasting system with conflict detection, and the IFS Cloud ERP implementation with custom OData and REST integrations built solo.
